Local Business
The landscape of local business has changed significantly from an economy that was originally driven by the tin mining boom of the 1800s to what became a largely agricultural economy with some main street retailers. Today the local economy is more diversified than ever before.
Out in the paddocks, the Granite Belt is home to Queensland's leading apple producers, to nationally acclaimed cattle breeders, to superfine wool growers, to Queensland's best wine grapes and to emerging but nationally recognised lavender growers.
There has been a boom in tourism related businesses and this in turn is changing the nature of the down town businesses. A new generation is moving into retailing and the service sector but we still have our fair share of well established and successful family businesses.
We don't offer 24 hour shopping and warehouses of choice. When shopping in the Granite Belt - remember you are not in the city...and that's exactly why we live here and so many people visit.
