Wine Show awards are recorded and updated on the website of the Wine Industry Development Division of the Department of Tourism, Regional Development & Industry (more below).
The Queensland wine industry has grown significantly over the years to cover approximately 1500 hectares throughout the State. The majority of this growth has occurred since 2000 with significant plantings throughout the southeast corner of the State.
Creation of the Wine Industry Development Division followed the February 2004 State Election, as part of the ministerial portfolio of Tourism and Fair Trading Minister, Margaret Keech, is believed to be an Australian-first. The Queensland wine industry will benefit from this high level Government support and from new funding of $0.5 million annually to the Department to help develop the industry, promote Queensland wines to national and international markets, and foster a strategic alliance between the tourism and wine sectors.
The Granite Belt has consistently out-performed other Queensland wine regions when judged and the town of Stanthorpe is home to the long-running Australiian Small Winemakers Show. The Show provides a very special opportunity for a limited number to participate in the annual public tasting at the conclusion of show week in October. Visit www.asws.com.au
