Granite Belt Golf

Golfing in Stanthorpe is a very recreational. Stanthorpe Golf Courses are quiet, relaxed, and more often than not the kangaroos outnumber the golfers. There are two golf courses within the Granite Belt and others within a comfortable drive. Local and close courses are located in Stanthorpe, Wallangarra, Tenterfield, Warwick, Texas and Inglewood.

The Stanthorpe Gold & Country Club offers
10 holes, 18 tees Par 72. The course (right) is in town in Stanthorpe and well-known for its resident population. of almost 100 Eastern Grey Kangaroos.  Players can hire clubs, trolleys and golf carts and green fees are very modest. Open 7 days and use the honesty box for early starts. The clubhouse offers a licensed bar, lunch and snacks - but we suggest you phone to check restaurant hours as hours may vary.  The other facilities include two bowling greens and an active croquet club.  Choose from a wide range of tourist accommodation throughout the Granite Belt then contact the clubhouse on 07 4681 1276.

Wallangarra Golf Club
About 30 minutes drive south of Stanthorpe this small golf course is located on the former Wallangarra army base. It is little used, so great for practise or for those not wanting to be "pushed along" by the more serious golfer.  Visitors and children welcome 7 days - as they do in Wallangarra - just roll up.  Fun and affordable for families and groups, equipment hire available. Inglewood & Texas Golf Courses
These two small country courses are about an hour's drive west of Stanthorpe. Prior to travel we suggest you telephone to obtain more information: Inglewood on 07 4682 1100 or Texas on 07 4643 1119.

Tenterfield Golf Club
Just south of the Granite Belt, Tenterfield Golf Course is considered one of the finest country courses in Australia. It offers 360° views from the clubhouse and all parts of the 18 hole irrigated course plus undulating fairways and superb greens, which are surrounded by beautiful deciduous trees.  The course is popular with enthusiasts and social players alike. Ride-on buggies and golf equipment are for hire. Play is restricted during special tournaments. Phone 02 6736 1480.

Warwick Golf Club
Warwick is 45 minutes drive north of Stanthorpe and their golf cCourse has 18 holes, Par 69. It has clubs, trolleys and golf carts for hire and green fees are modest. Course open daily 8am to 6pm. Contact the clubhouse on 07 4661 5905.

Fishing & Boating in Stanthorpe
Storm King Dam is a short drive south-east from the centre of Stanthorpe town. Usually this is well-stocked with Murray Cod, Yellow Belly, Silver Perch, Spangled Perch and Eel-tailed catfish. Fishing permits are available locally from sporting stores and service stations. 

Storm King Dam is also a popular spot for water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, and rowing. Permits for boating on Storm King Dam are available from the Southern Downs Regional Council - phone 07 4681 5544 to apply.  For more information on the Dam phone Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre on 1800 SO COOL.

Bushwalking and Orienteering in the Granite Belt
Girraween National Park is only 26km south of Stanthorpe, and has a number of graded walking trails, from easy 20 min walks to more difficult day walks. Orienteering is also extremely popular on the Granite Belt. Contact the local Granite Belt orienteering club for event details.

Trail Bike Riding in the Granite Belt

The annual Greenlands Trail Ride is on in February and attracts riders from far and ride. The trail ride is hosted by the Greenlands State School and runs over 2 days. Contact the Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre for details.
