Granite Belt National Parks QLD Destinations
Stanthorpe on the Granite Belt is home to some of the best national parks QLD has to offer! Day trips, 4WD camping and hiking expeditions are all catered for on the Granite Belt, on one regional location:
- Girraween National Park: Girraween (pictured) is one of the most famous national parks QLD has, renowned for its impressive array of flora and fauna. Australian Geographic describes it thus: "Arriving at Girraween is like stumbling upon a vast sculpture garden. Around each bend you're stopped in your tracks by striking granite creations...."
- Sundown National Park: One of the most rugged national parks QLD has, this wilderness park caters for self-sufficient visitors seeking a secluded 4WD bush adventure. The park features spectacular steep-sided gorges, sharp ridges and peaks rising to more than 1000 metres.
Across the adjoining border into Northern NSW you'll find:
- Bald Rock National Park: Bald Rock (right) is Australia’s largest exposed granite rock (and next largest monolith in Australia to Uluru) that rises majestically from the lush forest. There are several walking trails to the top of the rock, where a visitor's book awaits those successful climbers. Bald Rock National Park entrance is south east of Stanthorpe along the Mt Lindesay Highway, just over the Queensland/NSW border. Alternatively it is well sign posted from from Tenterfield.
- Boonoo Boonoo Falls:With majestic waterfalls all year round and stunning native flowers ensured every Spring, Boonoo Boonoo National Park offers a great variety of scenic, natural and historic attractions for visitors. Access to the park is via the Mt Lindsay Highway, south east of Stanthorpe, just over the Queensland/NSW border. The Falls are also accessible from Tenterfield.
