Granite Belt South Full Day Self Drive Tour

This one is for the Wine Buffs

After pre-booking your Stanthorpe accommodation, on arrival we suggest you check in.  Depending on where you are staying, you may wish to first pop into the Visitor Information Centre at 28 Leslie Parade on the creek in Stanthorpe, where the helpful volunteers will assist with your plans.

As today revolves around wines and wineries, ensure you have a hearty breakfast and a designated driver. There are a large number of wineries so realistically you’ll need to choose 3-6 to visit in one day. View our extensive list of Granite Belt wineries and Granite Belt attractions.

Heading South on the New England Highway (the road that leads to Sydney) and after Glen Aplin turn left at Horans Gorge Road to visit Wild Soul organic wine producers.  From there back to and across the highway to visit Rumbalara Estate Wines. There you will find an array of wines, cheeses and chocolate truffles. Make sure to order your cheese platter before 11:30am.

Rejoin the highway and drive south to Mason Wines where you can stop for morning tea or lunch or jump into a golf buggy for their tag-along vineyard tours.

Going south once again, at Ballandean turn right into Bents Road and onto Bungawarra Boutique Wineries. Alternatively at the junction of Bents and Sundown Roads turn left, cross the creek and onto:

Ballandean Estate with their barrel room café and gourmet food gallery
Golden Grove Estate
Granite Ridge Tobin Wineries who sell Italian style bulk wines

Rejoining the highway you can cross the railway track and up to Hidden Creek and Symphony Hill Wines, or take the highway south to Pyramids Road Wines,

In your travels, look out for the large boulders, a feature of the Granite Belt which began its formation between 200 and 400 million years ago. When the continent collided with an oceanic plate, it caused molten magma to ooze through the earth’s crust. Slowly cooling, it solidified into granite boulders and outcrops that continue to fascinate visitors to the area.

Then settle into your accommodation house where some operators provide platters, or choose to have dinner in one of our many restaurants. Be sure to pre-book restaurants during the peak winter season, on public holidays and festival weekends.
