Granite Belt North Full Day Self Drive Tour
After pre-booking your Stanthorpe accommodation, on arrival we suggest you check in. Depending on where you are staying, you may wish to first pop into the Visitor Information Centre at 28 Leslie Parade on the creek in Stanthorpe, where the helpful volunteers will assist with your plans.
North of Stanthorpe opposite the Big Apple, Suttons Apple Cidery showcases pure apple juice and cider with the option to pick your own apples at certain times of the year. Refresh yourself at their shed café before continuing your journey.
Crossing the highway and onto Vincenzo’s at the Big Apple, who offer a large variety of traditional Italian goodies including cheese, confectionery, gelati, wine, arts and crafts. If you haven’t already eaten, grab something a bite to eat in their café or from their fully stocked deli while sampling local wines and liqueurs.
Head west across the railway track behind Vincenzo’s and turn into Amiens Road which takes you to Castle Glen. They offer over 90 different liqueurs, boutique beers, fudge and specialty Items. Guests are welcome to sample the products, so it is well worth taking your time with such a wide selection.
Upon leaving, turn left on to Amiens Road and drive 300 metres into the Granite Belt Dairy Farmhouse Cheese. They sample and sell traditional handmade cheeses made from their own Jersey herd. You can enjoy a cheese platter in their licensed café, or take some away for later.
In your travels, look out for the large boulders, a feature of the Granite Belt which began its formation between 200 and 400 million years ago. When the continent collided with an oceanic plate, it caused molten magma to ooze through the earth’s crust. Slowly cooling, it solidified into granite boulders and outcrops that continue to fascinate visitors to the area.
From the Dairy you now have two choices…
Option One:
Continue on Armistice Way, turning left onto Bapaume Road to Giardino’s Café where you can savour their delightful a la carte menu. They also have farm tours on the property for pre-booked groups.
