Despite the harsh conditions there are some beautiful gardens open on the Granite Belt throughout the year. For something quite different imagine a garden with 2000 roses adjoining a nine hole golf course. When you've done with wandering through a garden, get back into your vehicle and take a drive past the orchards, vineyards and vegetable farms to see large scale "veggie patches".
In the early spring the region is a blaze of blossom and wild flowers, in the summer the paddocks are full of produce, by autumn the landscape is a punctuated by deciduous folliage and in the winter the morning mists and frosts will have you snuggling by the fire with a good bottle of Granite Belt red.
But back to the great outdoors and a number of operators participate in the Australian Open Garden scheme so check their annual calendar to see who is showing this year.
And finally for the ultimate natural garden experience ... take a walking trail through a number of the national parks and for a memorable experience climb Bald Rock.
