Stanthorpe Aerodrome
Location: 320 Aerodrome Road, 6km NE of Stanthorpe. Strip: 5100’ x 100’, bitumen sealed. Taxiway: bitumen sealed. Lighting: pilot activated lighting (standard PAALC). Radio: 120.06MHz. Instrument approach rating available (CASA).
No landing charges and a short 30-40 minute flight time from Brisbane are just two of the benefits of arriving in Stanthorpe by air.
On 14 April 2010 Sunshine Aviation launched its new charter flights to Stanthorpe from Brisbane's Archerfield and the Sunshine Coast Airport.
Stanthorpe Aerodrome is on the edge of rural and residential development and is fully registered. The access road has been upgraded and the terminal building contains male and female toilets. Currently no formal refuelling system exists; however fuel for emergency purposes can be obtained by phoning Phil Vichie on (07) 4681 1827.
The Aerodrome is an important asset to the Granite Belt community, one that needs to be developed for the economic benefits to the region affectionately known as the apple and grape capital of Queensland. Council has plans to upgrade the Aerodrome to encourage aviation related businesses to invest and to possibly create jobs within the aviation industry. The improvement programme includes:
- Upgrade of access road (completed)
- Extension of taxiway and taxiway lighting (completed)
- Area set aside for future upgrade of the terminal building
- Commercial buildings available on request
- Area set aside for aircraft parking
- Area set aside for refuelling operations
Southern Downs Regional Council is offering potential interested parties the option to lease or purchase the land. Most other regional airports offer one or the other, but Stanthorpe’s point of difference is that we are willing to capture all sections of the market by offering lease or freehold. Council is offering 8 blocks initially and those lots are approximately 1000 square metres in size. For more information on other uses for this modern facility contact Southern Down's Regional Council's Economic Development Officer Sarah Reeves 07 4681 5528.
