Art & Craft

Stanthorpe and the Granite Belt is home to a community of artists who derive their inspiration from the strength of the Granite and tranquillity of the bushland surrounds. Some artists have small galleries at their residences open by appointment – contact the Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre for details.

Glen Niven Pottery
The Granite Belt’s local pottery, Glen Niven Pottery, showcases hand-thrown and kilned pots using traditional methods and glazes, all on-site at Glen Niven, to the North of Stanthorpe. See the potter at work, and if the time is right you may be treated to a tour of the pottery.

It’s a Case of Art in the Mill

An annual exhibition of local artists held in the old Ballandean Case and Timber Mill. The exhibition commences on Friday night of the Labour Day long weekend in May, coinciding with Opera in the Vineyard for a real cultural weekend. The exhibition highlights the talents of local Granite Belt artists. Exhibitors differ from year to year and displays usually include watercolours, acrylics, etchings, silk paintings, pottery and sculpture in clay, wood and stone.

Stanthorpe’s Market in the Mountains

For craft enthusiasts, the Market in the Mountains has long been the one-stop showcase for the region's producers who make it, bake it or sew it.  They converge on the Stanthorpe Civic Centre on the second and fourth Sunday of each month and/or long weekend Sundays.  The markets are known for wonderful handmade wares and fabulous food from local produce.
