2009 Queensland Wine Show - full results and blog alert.
Medals and awards won by Granite Belt Wineries at wine shows are recorded and updated on the website of the Wine Industry Development Division of the Department of Tourism, Regional Development & Industry.
The Granite Belt has consistently out-performed other Queensland wine regions when judged and the town of Stanthorpe is home to the long-running Australian Small Winemakers Show. The Show provides a very special opportunity for a limited number to participate in the annual public tasting at the conclusion of show week in October. For more details, visit the Australian Small Winemakers Show website.
Statistics
The Queensland Wine Industry has grown significantly over the years to cover approximately 1500 hectares throughout the State. The majority of this growth has occurred since 2000 with significant plantings of vines throughout the southeast corner of the Qld.
Creation of the Qld Wine Industry Development Division followed the February 2004 State Election, as part of the ministerial portfolio of Tourism and Fair Trading Minister, Margaret Keech, is believed to be an Australian-first. The Queensland wine industry will benefit from this high level Government support and from new funding of $0.5 million annually to the Department to help develop the industry, promote Queensland wines to national and international markets, and foster a strategic alliance between the tourism and wine sectors.
