ABOUT US

Queensland's Granite Belt describes the area in Australia's Great Dividing Ranges between Dalveen to the north of Stanthorpe, and Wallangarra to the south of Stanthorpe on the NSW border.   The Granite Belt is located within the area known as the Southern Downs.  The Granite Belt includes the many small villages and hamlets along the New England Highway, with Stanthorpe as the main commercial centre.  Look here for local Stanthorpe businesses.

Stanthorpe boasts mountains, open skies, clean air, ecotourism destinations and national parks plus an abundance of locally-grown fresh fruits and vegetables.  Visitors to the Granite Belt love the four distinct seasons, orchards, vineyards and wineries, and the excellent range of accommodation from backpacker to five-star.

The Granite Belt is situated less than 2.5 hours by road from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, making it a popular Queensland short break destination.  It is similarly accessible for travellers from northern New South Wales - Stanthorpe is approximately three hours drive north of Armidale on the New England Highway.  For more information on getting to Stanthorpe and maps of the Granite Belt, see Getting Here & Maps.

Stanthorpe is most famous for apples, wine, and being the coldest town in Queensland! More and more wine-lovers are growing to appreciate the quality and unique characteristics of Granite Belt wine. Stanthorpe apples find their way into almost every home in Queensland! The Granite Belt produces most of Queenslands’ summer stone fruits and salads, olives, berries, mushrooms and vegetables - some of it available straight from the paddock at the farm gate.  Check the Granite Belt Produce Calendar to see what's in season now!

The Granite Belt has supports a burgeoning arts community, with regular exhibitions by Granite Belt artists. Lesser known is the award winning Lavender produced in and around Stanthorpe.

A useful first port of call when you visit is the Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre, scenically located on the banks of Quart Pot Creek. If pushed for time, the Visitor Centre is a handy one-stop-shop to view and purchase many locally made goods and gift baskets. It’s open daily, and our volunteers are happy to help with information or a souvenir of your visit to Granite Belt Wine Country.
